Traditional Prayer-Rattle Making

  • Circle Studio 62 Plains Road New Paltz, NY, 12561 United States (map)

“Rattles are the sound of the North in the medicine wheel. Their sound assimilate the rain therefore a good cleanser of dense energies stuck in body, mind or spaces. They are also used for traveling into other realms, journeying to the North where our ancestors, teachers and guides live.”

“In this workshop you will craft a traditional corn filled Elk-rattle for ceremonial and healing use.

Once sacred space has been opened and everyone has voiced their presence in the circle we will receive the materials for bringing these tools through. The first step is to make the holes and sew them together. We will be filling them with sand to take the desired shape and let them dry while having lunch and exploring the spirit realms within our container.

The final step of assembling the rattles and exchanging the sand for corn will tie the day together.”

Exchange is $150 and includes all materials.

About Mia Luz:

Mia Luz is an ever-unfolding mystic, truth-seeker, and spiritual electrician. She’s a devotee of Earth mother and midwife of Spirit, empowering seekers to find their way back to their essence, true purpose, and soul fulfillment. Mia blesses through the medicine of the West, the women’s lodge, where the deep, dark, primal and watery territory of feminine flow lies. Her deep connection to Earth was sparked growing up on a farm in northern Sweden, and her ongoing travels and studies in cultures with earth-based religions, ancient traditions, and plant medicines have stoked her profound wisdom.

I offer the teachings of the drum that my Ojibwe elders verbally passed down to me, with respect for those who passed along knowledge of how and why to make drums since the beginning of time.
