Leather Mask-Making Workshop

Date: Sunday, October 19, 2025, 1pm to 3:30pm
Location: Circle Creative Collective

Join artist Melissa Hewitt of Mystic Masque for a rare opportunity to step into the ancient art of mask-making. For the first time, Melissa is sharing her process of transforming raw leather into sculpted, wearable works of art.

In this immersive workshop, participants will:

  • Choose from one these designs — crow/raven, owl, bat, fox, wolf, skull, tree, or bear.

  • Begin with a pre-cut leather mask form, ready to paint and sculpt into shape.

  • Learn Melissa’s techniques for wetting, molding, and finishing leather so that it fits comfortably to your face.

  • Call in the essence of your chosen animal spirit, infusing your mask with intention and presence as you bring it to life.

  • Complete your own wearable mask to take home by the end of the day.

This workshop is more than a craft — it’s a creative and spiritual journey, connecting you with the magic of transformation.

No prior experience required; all materials provided.

Melissa Hewitt is committed to a life of creativity. She realizes that in finding and trusting her voice artistically she ignites others to find their own voice.

Coming from a long line of printers and creatives, Melissa grew up in a family print shop and later studied papermaking and printmaking. Melissa went to school for fine art, traveled and studied traditional crafts, mask and costume making, and fiber arts from different cultures—and found that many of these traditions were in danger of being lost. These skills have empowered, healed and supported our human ancestors since pre-history and she feels it is her mission to help preserve this wisdom and remind others of the healing power they hold right in their own creative hands.
